1.7.23 Beginner 4-Harness Weaving with Sybil Shiland

This class is for beginning weavers who want to learn how to weave on a 4-harness floor or table loom. No previous weaving experience is necessary, but rigid heddle weavers and and those looking to refresh or improve upon their skills are also welcome. You will learn the parts of a loom, how to read a draft, calculate yarn needed for warp, and how to thread a loom.

Students will create a scarf, table runner, place mats, or hand towels. A variety of weaving yarns are available at the shop.  We are suggesting 8/2 cotton, 5/2 cotton, 3/2 cotton or Harrisville Shetland or Highland yarns.

This class will meet for a weekend intensive and then once more two weeks later to learn how to finish your project.  You will need to come in and work on your loom outside of class time - an estimated 15-20 hours.  Please note that normal shop hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 11am-5pm. 

Class times are as follows:

Saturday, January 7th from 9:00am-5:00pm *1 hour lunch break

Sunday, January 8th from 9:00am-4:00pm *1 hour lunch break

Saturday, January 21st from 9:00am-11:00am

Cost is $285 and includes 2 weeks of loom rental ($42).  If you have your own loom that you'd like to use, cost is $243.  If you will be bringing your own loom, please know that it is in working order with all of its parts.

Materials will be available for purchase and will cost $30-$60 depending on your yarn choices and the size of your project.  You are also welcome to bring your own materials.
